Indulge in Indoor Excitement at Kalahari Poconos on a Rainy Day

We make an annual trip to Kalahari Resorts and Conventions, and it seems like it rains every time we go. But that’s okay because there’s plenty of indoor fun. Just one night and two days at Kalahari Poconos is all you need for a great time.

Where to stay

We’ve become loyal to the Big 5 Suite, a spacious haven. This suite boasts five bedrooms: one with a king bed and master bath, and four with two queen beds, queen-size sofa sleepers, and four bathrooms. You’ll find nine flat-screen TVs, a dining table, pool table, fireplace, a roomy balcony with furniture, and a fully equipped kitchen that feels like home. We team up with four other families, ensuring endless fun. The well-stocked kitchen and bathrooms add convenience. What we love most is that every family has their own bathroom, and the kids enjoy a giant sleepover in the main area with comfy sofa beds. They consistently maintain it in excellent and clean condition each time we visit. They also offer a small gym in the facility, perfect for a quick workout session.

What to do

The waterpark at Kalahari Poconos offers a wide range of activities suitable for all ages. Personally, I find the indoor and outdoor hot tubs and Paxton Grotto Swim-Up Bar particularly enjoyable. While my daughter and I aren’t fans of thrill rides, there are family-friendly options that provide some excitement, like the Lazy River and Victoria Falls. My daughter adores the wave pool and Splashdown Safari, while my son and husband revel in the thrill rides, such as the heart-pounding Screaming Hyena and Wild Wildebeest. When my kids were younger, they couldn’t get enough of Tiko’s Watering Hole, with its mini slides and interactive activities. You have the option to rent a bungalow or cabana, but there are also ample tables and seats available.

We always make a pitstop at the arcade, but sometimes, they have so much fun in the suite with their friends that we’re lucky enough to skip it.

For additional indoor fun, you can explore escape rooms, enjoy blacklight mini golf, and try your hand at mini bowling.

If you have an extra day, and the weather is clear, there are also options like ziplining, a ropes course, and outdoor laser tag.

What to eat

We’ve prepared dinner in our suite and occasionally ordered pizza from a local spot, which costs about a third of the price compared to Kalahari’s pizzeria. While it’s not quite as good as New York pizza, it’s good enough for the price. For breakfast, we bring our own supplies to cook. Alternatively, you can grab a quick morning meal at Marrakesh Market or Java Manjaro, though be prepared for potentially long lines. For lunch, we often order from Cafe Mirage, but do expect a wait time of 30 minutes to an hour. If you’re in a hurry, consider avoiding fried food. We’ve also had great dining experiences at Sortino’s Italian Kitchen and B-Lux Grill & Bar when opting to dine out.

We never miss a stop at Pho Saigon III on our way back. Their banh mi is fantastic too!
